Tigers 4, Diamondbacks 3:
Torii Hunter and Austin Jackson both homered as Detroit took the opener of its three-game interleague series against host Arizona.

Miguel Cabrera had two hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh for the Tigers, who have won back-to-back games. Justin Verlander (9-8) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings and Joe Nathan worked around a two-out single in the ninth to earn his 20th save.

Aaron Hill recorded a pair of hits and Gerardo Parra belted a solo homer as the Diamondbacks had their four-game home winning streak come to an end. Randall Delgado (1-2) allowed a run in 2 1/3 innings of relief to suffer the loss.

Detroit staked Verlander to a lead in the second inning as Victor Martinez led off with a walk and Hunter followed by lining a first-pitch fastball from Vidal Nuno down the line in left field for a two-run homer. Jackson opened the third by belting a 3-2 slider deep into the stands in left for his fourth blast.

The Diamondbacks started to chip away in the fourth, when Miguel Montero’s liner glanced off Verlander’s glove and trickled far enough away to allow Hill to score from third before Mark Trumbo followed with an RBI single. Parra’s towering drive in the sixth tied it up, but Jackson led off the seventh with a double and moved up on a lineout before scoring easily on Cabrera’s single high off the wall in center.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Jackson has recorded multiple hits in four straight games and seven of his last eight. … Cabrera’s shot in the seventh bounced off a section of stands just below the yellow line, and he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. The non-homer call was confirmed by replay. … Nuno was charged with three runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings and is winless in three starts since being acquired from the New York Yankees.
