Diamondbacks 10, Pirates 2: Ender Inciarte's RBI single ended Vance Worley's no-hit bid in the sixth inning and David Peralta followed with a two-run homer to highlight his four-RBI performance as visiting Arizona salvaged the finale of its three-game series with Pittsburgh.
Cody Ross and Didi Gregorius had a run-scoring double and an RBI single, respectively, in the ninth before Peralta added a two-run single for his career-high third hit of the contest. Paul Goldschmidt plated a pair with his first triple of the season and Miguel Montero added an RBI base hit to cap the seven-run frame.
The offense was more than enough for Brandon McCarthy (3-10), who allowed two runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings to win back-to-back starts for the first time since May 18-24, 2013. Worley (2-1) was not as fortunate despite retiring the first 12 batters he faced, as he permitted three runs on four hits in seven frames to take the loss.
Jordy Mercer doubled to lead off the third inning and scored on rookie Gregory Polanco's groundout for the Pirates, who fell for just the third time in 12 games. Ike Davis added an RBI single in the fourth, but Pittsburgh mustered little else the rest of the way.
After being held without a hit for the first five frames, Arizona finally got to Worley as Gregorius drew a leadoff walk in the sixth. The speedster was sacrificed to second and scored on Inciarte's single to left before Peralta deposited a 2-0 slider from Worley over the wall in right field for his third homer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Peralta, who finished 3-for-5, improved to 8-for-14 in his last four games. ... Pirates LF Starling Marte, who went 1-for-4, has hit safely in all 13 games in his career versus the Diamondbacks. ... Pittsburgh hosts Keystone State rival Philadelphia on Friday in the opener of a three-game series, while Arizona wraps up a nine-game road trip by beginning a three-game set in Atlanta.
