Brian Anderson drove in six runs with two homers and a double and Wade Miley tossed six scoreless innings for his 100th career victory as the Milwaukee Brewers cruised to a 9-0 victory on Tuesday night to post their second consecutive shutout against the visiting New York Mets.
Miley (1-0), limited to nine games with the Cubs last season due to injuries, scattered five hits, striking out three and walking none in his season debut.
Rowdy Tellez, Anderson and Garrett Mitchell hit consecutive homers off Mets starter Max Scherzer (1-1) in the sixth inning to put the Brewers up 5-0.
Anderson and Mitchell also went back-to-back with two outs in the seventh off Brooks Raley. Anderson sent a three-run shot to center for his third homer of the season, and Mitchell followed with a line drive over the right field wall for his second home run to make it 9-0.
Peter Strzelecki, Hoby Milner and Javy Guerra each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the shutout. The Mets, who lost the series opener 10-0 on Monday, have not scored since their final run in the seventh inning in a 5-1 win at Miami on Sunday.
With one out in the sixth, Tellez sent an 0-1 pitch from Scherzer 422 feet to right for his first homer to put the Brewers up 3-0. Anderson followed with a 414-foot shot to center and Mitchell sent a 362-foot drive to right.
It was the first time the Brewers hit three consecutive homers since Aug. 8, 2018, against San Diego. Jesus Aguilar, Travis Shaw and Eric Thames were the ones who accomplished the feat.
Scherzer allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking two.
The Brewers got to Scherzer for a pair of first-inning runs. Christian Yelich singled to center on the first pitch. Yelich advanced to third on a one-out single by Willy Adames, who took second on the throw. Anderson's two-out double to the gap in left-center field scored both runners.
Miley worked out of trouble in the fifth. Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch to open the inning and Eduardo Escobar followed with a single to left. Tomas Nido fanned, and McNeil moved to third on Brandon Nimmo's fielder's choice. Miley got Starling Marte on an inning-ending bouncer to short.
