Tommy Pham had a walk-off single in the 10th inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 3-2 win against the visiting New York Yankees in the opener of their three-game series on Friday night.
J.D. Martinez had three hits and two RBIs for the Red Sox, who had lost four of five.
Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked two.
Garrett Whitlock (3-2) threw two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
Yankees starter Domingo German allowed one run and five hits in six innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked two.
Aaron Judge drove in his 100th run of the season with a solo home run in the third inning for the Yankees, who have lost eight of nine.
Lou Trivino (1-7) was on the mound to start the 10th for New York and Christian Arroyo was the runner on second. Jaylin Davis moved him to third with a groundout, setting up Pham's game-winning hit down the third base line.
The Yankees led 2-1 when Clay Holmes came on to close the ninth, but he blew his fifth save of the season. He walked back-to-back batters with one out before Martinez grounded an RBI single up the middle to tie the score at 2.
Anthony Rizzo doubled into the right field corner with one out in the first to score Judge for a 1-0 lead. Josh Donaldson followed with a single to put runners on the corners, but Eovaldi avoided further damage by getting Gleyber Torres to hit into an inning-ending double play.
Judge homered to left field to lead off the third, his 46th of the season, stretching the lead to 2-0.
Judge reached 100 RBIs in his 109th game, the fastest by a Yankees player since Alex Rodriguez hit that mark in the 99th game in 2007.
He's also the fastest in the majors to reach that mark since Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers did it in 103 games in 2013.
Alex Verdugo barely beat Judge's throw to second for a leadoff double in the fourth and Martinez then rolled a single up the middle to score Verdugo and make it 2-1.
