Jazz Chisholm slugged a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning, leading the Miami Marlins to a 3-2 win over the visiting New York Mets on Thursday night.
The Mets (70-71) led 2-0 until the sixth inning, when Chisholm picked up an RBI fielder's choice grounder. His homer in the eighth was measured at 402 feet, and it was the rookie's 15th long ball of the season.
Jeurys Familia (9-4) allowed the homer and took the loss.
Richard Bleier (3-2) earned the win. Dylan Floro picked up his ninth save for the Marlins (59-81).
Mets second baseman Javier Baez went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, a walk, two steals and two advancements on wild pitches. He scored twice, and his homer was his 29th of the season, five shy of his career high set in 2018.
New York's Marcus Stroman took a tough no-decision as he struck out seven batters and walked none in 6 1/3 innings. He allowed four hits and one run.
Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo allowed two hits, four walks and two runs in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision. He struck out eight.
New York opened the scoring in the first. With two outs and no one on, Baez smacked a ground-rule double and scored on two consecutive wild pitches. The first wild pitch didn't stray far from catcher Sandy Leon, but Baez earned third base with one of his trademark dives, taking away his left hand and grabbing the bag with his right.
New York made it 2-0 in the third as Baez muscled his homer to center, hitting a 1-1 curve.
Miami got on the board in the sixth. Eddy Alvarez was hit by a pitch, went to third on Miguel Rojas' single to right and scored on Chisholm's groundout.
The Marlins tied the score 2-2 in the seventh despite getting two runners thrown out on the bases. But with two outs and Isan Diaz at second, Lewis Brinson hit a dribbler. Reliever Brad Hand threw wildly to first, allowing Diaz to score. Brinson was thrown out at second, and it was ruled an infield hit with an error.
New York's Pete Alonso led off the eighth with his fifth career triple as the ball bounced off the wall and away from right fielder Jesus Sanchez. However, Alonso was stranded as two Marlins relievers -- Anthony Bender and Bleier -- combined to get three groundouts.
Chisholm's homer in the bottom of the inning came on a 1-0 fastball, and it gave Miami its first lead of the night.
