Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs and the host Detroit Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak by downing the Oakland A's 8-6 on Tuesday.
Cabrera hit his 502nd career homer and also knocked in the go-ahead run in the seventh. Akil Baddoo and Harold Castro also homered for Detroit (63-71) and drove in two runs apiece.
Joe Jimenez (5-1) pitched an inning of scoreless relief and was credited with the win. Gregory Soto recorded his 17th save.
Matt Olson drove in three runs for Oakland (73-60) and Jed Lowrie had two RBI doubles.
A's starter James Kaprielian allowed four runs in four-plus innings, striking out four and walking three. Detroit starter Wily Peralta, who was activated from the 10-day injured list after recovering from a blister on his pitching hand, allowed three runs (two earned) in four innings. He struck out two with one walk.
Oakland scored an unearned run in the first on Olson's sacrifice fly.
Detroit tied it in the second. Jeimer Candelario led off with a double, moved to third on Eric Haase's long fly and scored on Castro's single.
Oakland grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth. Starling Marte led off with his 10th homer. Olson walked and scored on Lowrie's one-out double to deep center.
The Tigers knotted the score in the bottom of the inning. Robbie Grossman drew his second walk of the game before Cabrera smashed a Kaprielian changeup over the left-field wall.
The A's took a 6-3 lead in the fifth against Jose Urena. Olson's two-run double drove in Harrison and Marte, who reached on singles. Olson scored on Lowrie's second RBI double.
Kaprielian departed after giving up Baddoo's solo homer in the bottom of the fifth. Castro homered with two out in the sixth to make it 6-5.
The Tigers then took the lead in the seventh against A.J. Puk (0-2) and Jake Diekman. Derek Hill led off with an infield hit and Baddoo walked. Jonathan Schoop's single brought in Hill and Cabrera's bloop hit to center off Jake Diekman knocked in Baddoo.
Baddoo's RBI single in the eighth gave the Tigers a two-run lead.
