C.J. Cron continued his hot August by crushing a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning and the visiting Colorado Rockies earned a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
Charlie Blackmon and Elias Diaz also hit home runs for the Rockies, who won for the seventh time in their past 10 games and earned just their fourth victory over the Dodgers this season in 14 attempts.
Will Smith and Trea Turner hit home runs for the Dodgers, who lost their second consecutive home game after winning the previous eight in a row. It was just the third loss for Los Angeles in its last 19 games overall.
Using right-hander Brusdar Graterol as their opener, the Dodgers fell into a quick 2-0 hole three batters into the game. Connor Joe produced a leadoff single, and one out later, Blackmon hit his two-run shot to left field. It was his 10th homer of the season, four of which have come against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles pulled even against Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland in the third inning. Smith hit a home run off the left field foul pole, his 21st, and Turner hit one to left two batters later, his 20th. Smith has a home run in each of his past three games.
Cron ended the deadlock with his sixth-inning blast deep into the Dodgers' bullpen in left field, his 23rd of the season. He also has a major-league-leading 30 RBIs this month.
Diaz gave the Rockies a 4-2 advantage in the ninth inning on a home run to left field, his 15th.
Freeland (5-6) gave up two runs on four hits over six innings with no walks and seven strikeouts to continue his hot run. He has a 2.79 ERA over his past seven starts, dating back to July 24.
Carlos Estevez struck out three in the ninth inning to earn his third save after Daniel Bard pitched a scoreless eighth.
Andre Jackson (0-1), who was making his second career appearance for the Dodgers, gave up one run on four hits over 4 2/3 innings. He issued two walks and struck out two.
