Yuli Gurriel went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Lance McCullers Jr. struck out 10 in seven strong innings, and the Houston Astros cruised to a 7-1 win over the host Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
Myles Straw added three RBIs for Houston, which improved to 5-0 over the White Sox this season. Kyle Tucker finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Michael Brantley belted a solo home run.
Yoan Moncada drove in the lone run for the White Sox, who lost for the first time since July 5 against the Minnesota Twins.
Chicago won its final five games before the All-Star break.
McCullers (7-2) reached double digits in strikeouts for the first time this season. The right-hander gave up two hits and walked two before exiting at the 94-pitch mark.
White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease (7-5) surrendered three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and also fanned 10, marking the fourth time this season he has tallied double-digit strikeouts.
The White Sox opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Tim Anderson led off the inning with a triple and scored moments later on Moncada's double to left field.
Houston grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third. The Astros loaded the bases with two outs for Gurriel, who doubled to right field to drive in Martin Maldonado from third base and Jose Altuve from second.
Brantley's solo shot in the fifth increased the Astros' lead to 3-1. It was his sixth homer of the season.
In the seventh, Houston added four more runs to make it 7-1.
Tucker started the scoring with an infield single to bring home Brantley. Abraham Toro was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases, and Straw delivered in the next at-bat with a bases-clearing double to right.
Before the game, the White Sox recalled right-hander Reynaldo Lopez from Triple-A Charlotte and reinstated left-hander Aaron Bummer from the 10-day injured list.
Both players appeared in the contest, with Bummer giving up four runs in two-thirds of an inning and Lopez tossing two scoreless frames.
