Shohei Ohtani and Phil Gosselin each went 3 for 4 and combined for five RBIs to lift the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-4 comeback win over the host Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Angels snapped a five-game losing streak and beat the Rays for the first time in seven games this season. The loss also halted the Rays' four-game winning streak.
Gosselin hit the go-ahead, solo home run to left in the top of the eighth off reliever Matt Wisler (1-3). Ohtani drove in three runs, capped by his 25th home run of the season -- a 384-foot, opposite-field solo blast to left field -- in the top of the ninth inning.
Tony Watson (3-3) picked up the win in relief and Raisel Iglesias notched his 13th save.
Less than 24 hours after Ji-Man Choi recorded four hits in a game for the first time in his career, he hit a three-run homer off reliever Mike Mayers to give the Rays a 4-2 lead.
But the Angels answered with a pair of runs in the seventh.
Doubles by Taylor Ward and Juan Lagares off reliever Ryan Thompson cut the deficit to 4-3. Randy Arozarena made a diving attempt to catch Lagares' hit, but the ball hit off his glove and landed safely, allowing Ward to score.
Ohtani tied the game at 4 in the seventh with an RBI triple to right field with two outs, which scored Lagares.
He also roped a double over the head of Rays right fielder Manuel Margot in the sixth inning, which allowed David Fletcher to score from first base and give the Angels a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, Ohtani drew a walk from Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough, stole second and scored three batters later on an RBI single by Gosselin.
Angels starter Patrick Sandoval gave up three runs on four hits, struck out six and walked two in five innings. Yarbrough allowed two runs on six hits in six innings, struck out four and walked one on 98 pitches.
