Miguel Rojas homered and finished with a season-high four RBIs as the Miami Marlins snapped a four-game losing streak with an 11-2 win over the visiting Washington Nationals on Friday night.
Nationals left fielder Kyle Schwarber went 3-for-4 and slugged a solo homer, his 13th dinger in 14 games and his ninth in six contests. His homer was the main highlight for Washington, which had its five-game win streak broken.
Miami got first baseman Garrett Cooper off the injured list, and he went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, two RBIs, one homer, one double and one walk. It was his first game since suffering a back injury on June 7.
Pablo Lopez (4-4) struck out nine batters and earned the win, allowing six hits, one walk and two runs in six innings. In the past six Marlins games, Lopez is 2-0 and the rest of the pitching staff is 0-4.
Jon Lester (1-3) took the loss, lasting a season-low 2 1/3 innings. He allowed five hits, three walks and a season-high seven runs.
Miami opened the scoring with a four-run first inning. After walks to Starling Marte and Cooper, Adam Duvall's single gave Miami a 1-0 lead.
Rojas then drew three straight balls and started to head to first with an apparent walk before a low strike kept him in the box. On the next pitch, Rojas pulled his homer as Schwarber crashed into the wall and fell in pursuit of the fly ball. That home run, Rojas' fourth of the season, was measured at 378 feet and was just inches over Schwarber's glove.
Schwarber's blast in the third was well beyond any player's grasp, landing in the upper deck in right field -- a 420-foot blast. The Nationals added another run in the third inning when Trea Turner singled, stole second and scored on Ryan Zimmerman's RBI single.
But Miami stretched its lead to 7-2 in the third, getting RBI hits from Rojas (single), Jesus Sanchez (double) and Jon Berti (single).
Sanchez (fourth inning) and Jazz Chisholm (fifth) added RBI groundouts, and the Marlins cruised from there.
