Kevin Pillar and Billy McKinney each hit a pair of home runs as the visiting New York Mets went deep six times on the way to a 14-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
Pillar went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while McKinney finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Pete Alonso hit a home run for the third time in two games, and Mason Williams also homered as New York banged out 16 hits.
Alonso hit a two-run homer in the first for the second consecutive night, and Pillar capped a five-run third inning with his first blast of the game as the Mets scored seven runs in the first three frames.
That proved to be plenty of support for New York right-hander Taijuan Walker (5-2), who went seven innings and gave up one run on five hits with nine strikeouts. The Orioles scored 28 combined runs in their previous two games but Walker kept them quiet.
Former New York right-hander Matt Harvey (3-7) struggled against his old team as the Mets pounded him for seven runs and eight hits in just three innings. He also surrendered seven runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings of a May 12 loss to the Mets in New York.
Harvey has lost six consecutive decisions.
Alonso's two-run homer in the first gave New York a lead it never lost, and Baltimore cut the lead to 2-1 when Ryan Mountcastle delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
The Mets took over from there. James McCann and McKinney contributed back-to-back RBI singles in the third before Pillar's three-run blast to left-center stretched the lead to 7-1.
McKinney delivered again in the fifth when he added a solo homer off of Adam Plutko, who replaced Harvey in the fourth. That gave New York an 8-1 advantage.
Pillar and Williams hit back-to-back solo shots off rookie Mac Sceroler in the eighth. Alonso added an RBI double in the ninth and McKinney hit a three-run homer.
