Andrew Benintendi had four of Boston's 17 hits, scored two runs and knocked in another as the visiting Red Sox downed the Detroit Tigers 10-6 on Saturday.
The game was delayed four hours and five minutes by rain.
Mookie Betts supplied three hits while scoring two runs and driving in two more for Boston. Marco Hernandez contributed three hits and scored twice, while Christian Vazquez knocked in two runs.
Rick Porcello (6-7) collected the win despite allowing six runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Jeimer Candelario homered twice and drove in three runs for the Tigers. Jordan Zimmermann (0-6) was pounded for seven runs on 13 hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Betts sparked Boston's two-run first with a leadoff triple to deep center. Rafael Devers' groundout scored Betts. With two down, Benintendi tripled to right and scored on Michael Chavis' RBI single.
Boston made it 5-0 in the second on Betts' two-run double and Vazquez's RBI single.
The Red Sox continued the onslaught in the fourth. Devers led off with a single and Vazquez followed with a double to put runners in scoring position. Left fielder Christin Stewart lost Benintendi's fly ball in the lights and it dropped in for a double, bringing home Devers while Vazquez only advanced to third. Brock Holt's sacrifice fly gave Boston a 7-0 lead.
Detroit finally answered in the bottom of the inning on Candelario's two-run shot off the right-field foul pole.
Candelario was at it again in his next at-bat, golfing a breaking pitch over the right-field wall in the sixth. The Tigers pushed across three more runs before the inning was over to cut Boston's lead to 7-6.
Bobby Wilson knocked Porcello out of the game with a two-run single and Victor Reyes then ripped an RBI triple off reliever Colten Brewer.
A throwing error by reliever Buck Farmer with the bases loaded handed Boston its eighth run in the seventh.
Nunez singled in a run to give the Red Sox a 9-6 advantage in the eighth. Vazquez's sac fly in the ninth brought in Boston's final run.
