Gregory Polanco, Josh Bell, Bryan Reynolds and Starling Marte homered Thursday afternoon as the Pittsburgh Pirates pounded the visiting Colorado Rockies 14-6.
Bell was 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. He leads the major leagues with 47 RBIs in 47 games.
Colin Moran added two RBI singles for Pittsburgh, which had 15 hits and salvaged a game in the series after losing the first two by a combined 14-3.
Pirates starter Jordan Lyles (5-1) was strong through five innings and helped with a two-run single before melting down. In 5 2/3 innings, he gave up six runs and seven hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.
Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela (3-4) was roughed up for eight runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Pittsburgh batted around in the first and took a 4-0 lead. Marte was hit by a pitch with one out and scored on Polanco's fifth homer, a 436-foot shot to right. Bell walked and scored on Melky Cabrera's single to make it 3-0. Moran's base hit brought Cabrera home.
Bell led off the third with a double, moved to third on Cabrera's groundout and scored on Moran's single to make it 5-0. An Elias Diaz single and Kevin Newman walk loaded the bases for Lyles, whose single made it 7-0.
Lyles had been 0 for 13 with 10 strikeouts.
Bell's RBI single in the fourth gave Pittsburgh an 8-0 lead.
Lyles set down 14 straight before Ian Desmond's one-out double in the sixth. The Rockies pulled within 8-6 before the inning ended. With two outs, David Dahl and Raimel Tapia had RBI singles and Brendan Rodgers added a two-run single to chase Lyles. Reliever Geoff Hartlieb gave up a two-run single to pinch hitter Daniel Murphy.
Pittsburgh hit three homers in the seventh -- a leadoff shot by Bell, his 16th; a three-run shot by Reynolds, who was pinch-hitting; and a two-run shot by Marte -- to put it away, 14-6.
