Mike Trout did not hit a home run for the first time in five games, but he did steal a home run from reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich, helping the Los Angeles Angels extend their winning streak to four games with a 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday at Anaheim, Calif.
Trout had at least one homer in four consecutive games (five total), but Brewers pitchers were able to keep him in the ballpark. Trout went 0-for-2 (strikeout, lineout) with two walks.
The two-time MVP made up for it with his defense, reaching above the fence in left-center in the third inning to rob Yelich of what would have been his sixth homer of the year. Instead, Yelich wound up 2-for-4 with two singles.
Though Trout didn't go deep, the Angels had three home runs in the game - a two-run homer from Tommy La Stella, a solo homer from Andrelton Simmons and a two-run blast by Justin Bour.
Bour's home run came at a good time for both him and the Angels. Bour was just 3-for-31 with no home runs this season when he came to the plate in the bottom of the eighth. His homer off Chase Anderson increased Los Angeles' one-run advantage to 5-2, giving closer Cody Allen some added cushion.
Allen got the final three outs to earn his second save.
The Brewers took a lead in the second inning against Angels starter Trevor Cahill (1-1). Mike Moustakas singled with one out, went to second on a walk by Yasmani Grandal and one out later scored on a single by Orlando Arcia.
The Angels went ahead in the bottom of the second inning against Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin (2-1) with La Stella's first home run of the season, a two-run blast for a 2-1 advantage.
Moustakas' third homer of the season in the fourth tied the game at 2, but the Angels regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on Simmons' first homer of the year, making it 3-2.
Chacin gave up three runs on three hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings for the Brewers. Cahill yielded two runs on five hits and one walk in six innings for the Angels. He struck out eight.
