Omar Narvaez hit a three-run homer in a seven-run third inning and the Seattle Mariners held on to defeat the visiting Boston Red Sox 10-8 on Sunday.
Jay Bruce added a solo shot for the Mariners, who hit 11 home runs in taking three of four games from the defending World Series champions.
Left fielder J.D. Martinez hit a home run and drove in four runs for the Red Sox, but had a costly fielding error in the third that led to five unearned runs.
Mariners left-hander Wade LeBlanc (1-0) got the victory despite allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. LeBlanc walked three and struck out one.
Right-hander Chasen Bradford pitched the final two-thirds of an inning for his first major league save. Bradford entered with the score 10-7 and the bases loaded. He walked pinch hitter Blake Swihart on a 3-2 pitch to force in a run, but then struck out Christian Vazquez and got Jackie Bradley Jr. to ground out to second to end the game.
Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello (0-1) was staked to a three-run lead before he took the mound but couldn't make it through three innings. Porcello allowed nine runs (four earned) on six hits through 2 2/3 innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.
The Red Sox scored three times in the top of the first.
With one out, Rafael Devers doubled to left field and Martinez followed with a run-scoring single. After a walk, a fielding error and a flyout, Eduardo Nunez grounded a two-run single to left.
The Mariners got two runs back in the second on Dee Gordon's bases-loaded single with two outs.
Mitch Haniger led off the third by reaching on Martinez's error. An out later, Bruce walked and Narvaez hit an 0-1 pitch over the wall in right field, giving the Mariners a 5-3 lead. A single and two walks brought Gordon up again with the bases loaded and he delivered a sacrifice fly to left. Mallex Smith's run-scoring single to center ended Porcello's afternoon. Haniger greeted left-hander Brian Johnson with a two-run double down the left-field line, making it 9-3.
Martinez's three-run homer in the fourth made it 9-6.
Bruce led off the bottom of the inning with a solo shot for a 10-6 lead.
Mookie Betts hit a solo homer for the Red Sox in the sixth.
