Roenis Elias pitched five shutout innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Texas Rangers 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the season finale for both teams.

The Mariners (89-73) took three of four games against the Rangers (67-95) to win the season series 10-9, giving them a winning record against every other team in the American League West this year.

Elias (3-1) allowed only one hit, a leadoff single to Adrian Beltre in the second inning, didn't walk a batter and struck out four.

After being doubled off first base on a line drive to Ryon Healy, Beltre jogged past the Mariners' dugout and hugged Felix Hernandez, his former Mariners teammate. Beltre, a 21-year veteran, started at third base in perhaps the final game of his career, as he's considering retirement.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the second inning. With two outs, Kristopher Negron walked, stole second and scored on David Freitas' double to right field. Andrew Romine followed with a run-scoring single to center to make it 2-0.

Seattle added a run in the fifth. Cameron Maybin led off with a single to right field and then stole second. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Kyle Seager's sacrifice fly.

Rangers right-hander Yovani Gallardo (8-8) pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out three.

Texas scored with two outs in the sixth on No. 9 hitter Drew Robinson's solo home run off left-hander James Pazos. It was Robinson's third homer of the season and one of only four hits for the Rangers.

Left-hander Zach Duke and right-hander Nick Rumbelow each pitched a perfect inning of relief for the Mariners to get the ball to Shawn Armstrong, who earned his first save of the season as closer Edwin Diaz got the final day off.

Delino DeShields Jr. reached on a bunt single with one out in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate, but was picked off first by catcher Freitas. Armstrong got Hanser Alberto to fly out to left field to end the game.
