Mike Trout hit two home runs and had five RBIs in his second career five-hit game Saturday night, and the visiting Los Angeles Angels defeated the Chicago White Sox 12-3.
Trout hit a two-run homer in the first inning and hit a three-run shot in the third to start his 5-for-5 game.
Shohei Ohtani added a three-run triple for the Angels, who have won three in a row. The White Sox have dropped four straight.
Angels starter Matt Shoemaker (2-0) allowed three runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out four in five innings. It was his third start of the season and second after being on the disabled list most of the year with a right forearm strain.
White Sox starter James Shields (6-16) allowed six runs, nine hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings. He had one strikeout.
The Angels scored three runs in the first inning.
David Fletcher singled with one out, and Trout followed with his 32nd homer of the season. Ohtani singled, stole second and scored on Justin Upton's single.
The White Sox scored once in the bottom of the first on doubles by Yoan Moncada and Yolmer Sanchez.
The Angels took a 6-1 lead in the third. Kole Calhoun and Fletcher singled, and Trout homered again.
The White Sox came back with a run in the bottom of the third when Sanchez doubled and Avisail Garcia singled.
Tim Anderson singled, stole second and scored on a double by Kevan Smith in the fourth to trim the lead to 6-3.
The Angels added six runs in the ninth.
Calhoun reached first base on a throwing error by shortstop Anderson, Fletcher walked and Trout singled. Ohtani cleared the bases with a triple and scored on a wild pitch by Thyago Vieira, who had replaced Jace Fry.
Kaleb Cowart singled in a run, and pinch hitter Joe Hudson added an RBI groundout.
Jim Johnson pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth for the Angels.
