Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt had two hits, including his 33rd home run, and left-hander Patrick Corbin pitched six strong innings before the Diamondbacks held on for a 5-3 victory over the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves at Chase Field on Friday.

Daniel Descalso had two RBIs, and Nick Ahmed had two hits for the Diamondbacks, who moved within 1 1/2 games of Colorado in the NL West. They had lost five of six.

Johan Camargo had two doubles and a homer, Ronald Acuna Jr. had two hits and a stolen base and Nick Markakis had two hits for the Braves, whose lead in the NL East was shaved to 2 1/2 games over Philadelphia.

Corbin (11-5) gave up one run on four hits, struck out nine and walked one. It was his sixth quality start in his last seven outings.

Andrew Chafin got the first out of the ninth inning, and Brad Boxberger got the last two for his 32nd save. Boxberger had given up five earned runs in his last 4 1/3 innings.

Goldschmidt homered with two outs in the first inning, singled in the third and walked three times.

Camargo tied it at 1 with his 17th homer in the third inning, his second of the series.

Arizona took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third, stringing together four singles and a walk with one out. Eduardo Escobar, Goldschmidt and David Peralta singled for the first run before A.J. Pollock walked to load the bases. Descalso's two-run single capped the rally.

Atlanta scored twice in the eighth inning off Archie Bradley to close to 4-3. Acuna singled, stole second and scored on Camargo's double before Markakis and Tyler Flowers reached on infield singles to load the bases.

Brad Ziegler entered and got Ozzie Albies to hit a potential double-play grounder to second base, but shortstop Ahmed could not handle the throw at second as a run scored and the bases remained loaded. Ziegler struck out Adam Duvall and got Dansby Swanson to fly out to leave the bases loaded.

Escobar's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning made it 5-3.

Atlanta right-hander Kevin Gausman (9-10) had his least effective outing since joining the Braves at the trade deadline, giving up seven hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four.
