Martin Prado slugged a three-run double, and J.T. Realmuto homered as the Miami Marlins snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday at Marlins Park.
The Blue Jays had snapped a four-game losing streak of their own with a win in the series opener on Friday.
Miami took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Brian Anderson and went up 2-0 in the third on the solo home run by Realmuto, his 18th of the season.
After the Blue Jays cut the deficit in half with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly by Randal Grichuk, the Marlins blew the game open with four runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
Anderson walked with the bases loaded to score Realmuto and make it 3-1 before Prado delivered a double to deep center that cleared the bases and made it 6-1.
The offense was more than enough support for Wei-Yin Chen, who turned in a brilliant outing.
Chen (6-9) allowed just one run on three hits and struck out seven Toronto batters in eight innings. He even helped himself by recording a hit and scoring a run.
Realmuto and JT Riddle each had two hits and two runs scored for the Marlins.
Marco Estrada (7-11) took the loss for Toronto, giving up six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
The Blue Jays later made an attempt at a comeback in the ninth after Miami pulled Chen for reliever Tayron Guerrero.
Justin Smoak hit a 2-run home run to right to cut Miami's lead to 6-3, but the Blue Jays couldn't get any closer. The homer was Smoak's 23rd of the season.
Devon Travis recorded two of Toronto's five hits.
The teams will play the rubber match of their three-game series on Sunday.
