Freddy Galvis hit the first grand slam home run of his career Sunday afternoon against his former Philadelphia team and Joey Lucchesi became the second Padres rookie starter in three days to blank the Phillies over six innings as the Padres won the rubber match of a three-game series 9-3.

The win gave the Padres a 3-3 split of the season series against Philadelphia, which slipped back into a tie with Atlanta for the National League East lead.

Lucchesi (6-6) allowed two hits and three walks with six strikeouts to earn the win. On Friday night, right-hander Jacob Nix held the Phillies scoreless on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over six innings in his major league debut.

Meanwhile, the Padres punished Phillies right-handed starter Jake Arrieta (9-7), who gave up five runs - four coming on one Galvis swing in the third inning - on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

Arrieta has a 2.98 earned run average against all the other major league teams this season. But in two starts against the Padres, he has given up 10 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits and five walks with six strikeouts in just 8 1/3 innings.

The Padres got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first. Travis Jankowski singled, stole the first of his career-high four bases and moved to third on Eric Hosmer's single to left. Jankowski scored when Hunter Renfroe grounded into a double play.

Jankowski and Hosmer again had back-to-back singles to open the third, and Austin Hedges drew a two-out walk to load the bases ahead of Galvis' drive over the wall in center. Galvis is 10-for-22 against the Phillies this season with nine RBIs.

The Phillies scored three runs in the top of the eighth when a throwing error by second baseman Cory Spangenberg on the relay of a potential inning-ending double play allowed the Phillies' first run to cross the plate. Nick Williams and Carlos Santana followed with back-to-back RBI doubles.

The Padres got all three back in the bottom of the eighth on a single, a walk, an error, a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter A.J. Ellis and an infield out by Hosmer.
