Joey Wendle had two hits, including an RBI double, and Willy Adames also had two hits and an RBI as the visiting Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Rays have won the first two games of the three-game series and lead the season series 7-1.
Aledmys Diaz homered for the Blue Jays.
Rays starter Ryne Stanek, a reliever who has not pitched longer than two innings in 18 starts, allowed no runs, one hit and one walk in 1 1/3 innings. He was the first of six Tampa Bay pitchers on the day.
Diego Castillo (3-2) allowed one hit, one walk and hit a batter while striking out two in 2 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Sergio Romo pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 15th save of the season.
Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio (2-5) allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings and is still looking for his first win since May 25, a span of 14 starts.
The Rays scored one run in the first inning after a double by Mallex Smith that bounced up the middle and a ground-rule double by Wendle.
Tampa Bay scored another run in the second. Kevin Kiermaier led off with a single and continued to second on an error by center fielder Kevin Pillar. Kiermaier stole third and came home on a groundout to shortstop by Adames.
The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the bottom of the second but failed to score. Teoscar Hernandez led off with a double, and Kendrys Morales walked.
Yangervis Solarte suffered a right oblique injury during his at-bat and left with 2-2 count. Richard Urena replaced him and completed the strikeout, which was charged to Solarte. Castillo replaced Stanek and hit Russell Martin with a pitch to load the bases. Diaz fouled out, and Pillar grounded out to end the threat.
Castillo was replaced in the fifth by Jaime Schultz for the Rays, who allowed Diaz's 15th homer of the season.
Jaime Garcia replaced Gaviglio for the Blue Jays with one out in the sixth after C.J. Cron singled, and he retired both batters he faced.
Toronto's Jake Petricka pitched around a single and a walk in the seventh.
Tampa Bay's Hunter Wood also pitched around a single and a walk in the same inning, assisted by a caught stealing at second and a pickoff at first.
Tyler Clippard of the Blue Jays survived a double in the top of the eighth. Jose Alvarado pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth for the Rays.
Adames and Jesus Sucre singled against Ryan Tepera in the top of the ninth to produce another run for the Rays.
