Javy Baez had four hits, including a solo homer, and the Chicago Cubs rallied from a five-run deficit to topple the Cincinnati Reds 8-7 on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
Baez and Ben Zobrist drove in two runs apiece, while Addison Russell and Victor Caratini each had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Randy Rosario (4-0) pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the victory. Brandon Morrow collected his 20th save.
The Cubs completed their comeback with four eighth-inning runs.
Trailing 7-4, Chicago loaded the bases against Amir Garrett in the eighth on two walks and a single. Zobrist then ripped a double off Jared Hughes (2-3), knocking in Caratini and Russell. Baez followed with an infield single to tie the score. Anthony Rizzo's groundout brought in the go-ahead run.
Eugenio Suarez hit a three-run homer for the Reds. Joey Votto had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, and Scooter Gennett contributed two hits and two runs scored. Billy Hamilton had three hits and stole three bases.
Tyler Chatwood's control issues allowed the Reds to grab a quick 2-0 lead. Cincinnati loaded the bases with two down in the first. With Jesse Winker up, Chatwood threw two consecutive curveballs that skipped past Caratini. That allowed Tucker Barnhart and Gennett to score.
Suarez's homer came after Chatwood retired the first two batters in the third. Votto walked and Gennett reached on an infield hit before Suarez's blast to left.
Chicago broke through in the bottom of the fourth to cut Cincinnati's lead to 5-2. Kyle Schwarber led off with a single and scored on Caratini's double. An error by shortstop Jose Peraza allowed Caratini to advance to third, and he scored on Russell's groundout.
The Reds got one of those runs back in the fifth on Winker's RBI single. Votto's RBI single in the sixth upped Cincinnati's lead to 7-2.
The Cubs scored in the bottom of the inning on Russell's double and Rosario's single.
Baez made it 7-4 with his solo shot off David Hernandez in the seventh.
