JT Riddle's tie-breaking RBI infield single capped a three-run sixth inning Saturday afternoon as the Miami Marlins rallied for a 5-2 win over the New York Mets at Marlins Park.
The Marlins have won the first two games of the three-game series to move percentage points ahead of the Mets for fourth place in the National League East. Miami had been in last place in the NL East every day since April 5.
The Mets, who opened the season 11-1, have lost three straight and finished 5-21 in June. They have the worst winning percentage in the NL.
The Mets appeared on their way to a rare victory when Jose Bautista (first inning) and Todd Frazier (sixth inning) hit solo homers in support of ace right-hander Jacob deGrom, who carried a two-hit shutout into the sixth.
But the Marlins tied the game in a six-pitch span with one out in the sixth, when Derek Dietrich singled and Brian Anderson hit a game-tying two-run homer. With two outs, Justin Bour walked, went to third on Starlin Castro's single and scored on Riddle's hit.
The Marlins added insurance in the seventh, when a two-out error by Mets shortstop Amed Rosario allowed Anderson to reach base. J.T. Realmuto followed with a two-run double.
The sixth-inning rally made a winner out of rookie Pablo Lopez (1-0), who won his major league debut after allowing two runs on six hits in six innings.
Adam Conley and Drew Steckenrider each tossed a perfect inning before Kyle Barraclough earned his eighth save with a perfect ninth.
Castro had three hits.
DeGrom (5-4) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings. His NL-leading ERA rose from 1.69 to 1.84.
