Luis Severino pitched seven scoreless innings, Aaron Hicks and Didi Gregorius each homered and the New York Yankees defeated the host Philadelphia Phillies 6-0 Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Severino (12-2) gave up six hits while striking out nine. He threw 103 pitches, 72 for strikes.
Hicks, Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton each had two hits for the Yankees. Hicks and Torres knocked in two runs apiece.
Phillies starter Jake Arrieta (5-6) continued his June struggles after allowing nine hits and six runs, three earned, in five innings. Arrieta, who hasn't won a start since May 29, has a 6.66 ERA in June.
Cesar Hernandez and Scott Kingery each had a pair of hits for the Phillies.
Hicks gave the Yankees a quick 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run in the first inning.
It was the league-leading seventh leadoff homer allowed by the Phillies and the 13th in the first inning overall this season.
In the third, Torres added a two-run single off Arrieta, pushing the Yankees' lead to 3-0. Greg Bird followed with a run-scoring single for a 4-0 advantage.
Hicks also contributed a sacrifice fly in the fourth, scoring Austin Romine for a 5-0 lead.
Gregorius hit a solo home run in the fifth for a 6-0 lead.
Through the first five innings, the Phillies managed only three hits -- a double by Maikel Franco and singles by Hernandez and Kingery.
Kingery's single extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Hernandez singled with one out in the sixth but Rhys Hoskins popped out to Romine at catcher in foul ground. Odubel Herrera then flied out to the warning track in left field and the Phillies still trailed by six runs.
In the seventh, the Phillies had runners at first and third with two outs, but Severino struck out pinch hitter Aaron Altherr to end the scoring threat.
Severino lowered his earned run average to 2.10.
