Ian Kinsler homered and Mike Trout reached base four times for the second game in a row, helping the Los Angeles Angels snap a three-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday night in Anaheim, Calif.
But the most significant hit of the night might have come from Angels right fielder Kole Calhoun, who homered in the sixth inning. It was Calhoun's first homer since Opening Day, and just his fourth extra-base hit of the season.
Calhoun was hitting just .145 when he went on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle at the start of the month and missed 15 games. He returned to the active roster Monday and had two hits.
Tuesday, he went 1 for 4, showing off a new batting stance that has him holding his hands lower and crouching deeper.
Angels pitcher Felix Pena, making his first career major league start, gave up one run on two hits and three walks, but lasted just four innings. Four Angels relievers combined to pitch the final five innings, Blake Parker pitching the eighth and ninth for his eighth save.
Parker, though, did give up a two-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt with two out in the ninth to allow Arizona to get within one run.
The Diamondbacks finished with just five hits in all. David Peralta drove in their first two runs with an RBI groundout in the first inning and an RBI double in the fifth.
Arizona starter Matt Koch (5-4) got the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.
Trout drove in two runs with a single, and also walked twice and reached on catcher's interference, raising his on-base percentage to a major league-best .469.
The Diamondbacks held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth when the Angels loaded the bases with one out for Trout, who singled to center. Two runs scored initially, and a third run scored on a throwing error by center fielder Jarrod Dyson for a 4-2 Angels lead.
Calhoun homered leading off the sixth to increase Los Angeles' lead to 5-2.
