Nick Williams homered and had three RBIs, and Zach Eflin pitched 7 2/3 strong innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.
Williams had a two-run homer in the second inning for the Phillies, who snapped a three-game slide. Aaron Altherr added two RBIs as Philadelphia won for just the third time in its past nine contests.
Each starter in the Phillies' lineup collected one of the team's nine hits.
Eflin (2-2) allowed one run and eight hits before exiting. He struck out two and walked one while helping end Chicago's four-game winning streak.
Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks (4-5) gave up five runs and five hits over five innings while losing his second straight start. He struck out five and issued three walks.
Chicago was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position while losing for just the second time in its past nine games.
Eflin was four outs away from his second career shutout and third complete game before the Cubs got on the scoreboard.
Kris Bryant singled with two outs in the eighth and Anthony Rizzo followed with a RBI double to right-center field. Right-hander Edubray Ramos retired Willson Contreras on a foul pop to first to conclude the inning.
Right-hander Seranthony Dominguez pitched a scoreless ninth for the Phillies.
Altherr drew a one-out walk in the second before Williams followed by a lining a 3-1 sinker 410 feet over the wall in right to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.
Philadelphia tacked on three runs in the third, and none of the runs scored on a hit.
Cesar Hernandez singled, Odubel Herrera walked and Scott Kingery reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Hendricks walked Carlos Santana on a 3-2 pitch for the first run of the inning, and Altherr's sacrifice fly and Williams' fielder's choice plated the other two.
Santana doubled with two outs in the ninth and scored on Altherr's single to center for Philadelphia's final run.
