The Rangers entered the ninth inning trailing 2-1 but pushed across a run to tie the game, thanks to a replay challenge.

They had runners on first and third with one out when Adrian Beltre flied out to left against Angels reliever Blake Parker. Jurickson Profar tagged from third and went home, while Carlos Tocci tagged from first and went to second.

Left fielder Justin Upton's throw went to second base, Tocci being tagged out and Profar reaching home too late for the run to count, essentially ending the game. But the Rangers challenged the call, and while Tocci was still ruled out, the call at home was reversed, Profar scoring the game-tying run.

Angels starter Garrett Richards gave up a single to Shin-Soo Choo on the very first pitch of the game, but didn't allow another the rest of the night. He pitched into the eighth inning and was removed after walking Joey Gallo to lead off the frame on his 101st pitch of the game.

On a night when Angels first baseman Albert Pujols was honored before the game for reaching 3,000 hits, it was Mike Trout who stole the show in the batter's box.

He hit his 19th home run of the season in the first inning, matching Boston's J.D. Martinez for the major league lead. He tripled in the third inning and singled in the sixth, all three hits coming against Rangers starter Cole Hamels.

Needing a double for the cycle, Trout popped out to first base in the eighth inning against reliever Jose Leclerc. Trout later flied out in the 10th inning against Keone Kela, ending the game. Trout has hit for the cycle once in his career, doing it on May 21, 2013, against Seattle.

Besides Trout, the only Angel to get a hit off Hamels was ex-Ranger Ian Kinsler, who homered in the sixth inning and singled in the eighth. That eighth-inning single marked the end of the night for Hamels, who was charged with two runs on five hits, one walk and two hit batters in seven-plus innings.

Richards was coming off one of his worst starts of the season last week in a loss to the Yankees, but after Choo's leadoff single, Richards did not allow another Rangers batter to reach base until the seventh, when Choo reached on an error by third baseman Jefry Marte.

Choo went to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout to second and scored on an RBI groundout by Nomar Mazara.

After Richards walked Gallo to start the eighth, Justin Anderson entered the game and walked Rougned Odor. But Anderson retired the next three hitters to end the threat.

Richards gave up one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out nine.
