Arizona's A.J. Pollock hit a walk-off, bases-loaded single off Houston third baseman Alex Bregman's glove, and David Peralta homered as the Diamondbacks broke a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Astros on Saturday in Phoenix.
Jeff Mathis beat out a surprise bunt single down the third base line off Chris Devenski (1-1) to open then ninth. Deven Marrero then bunted, and pinch runner Jarrod Dyson was forced out at second. David Peralta fanned for the second out.
Chris Owings and Paul Goldschmidt walked before Houston reliever Brad Peacock entered. On Peacock's first pitch, Pollock hit a one-hopper toward the hole at short that kicked off Bregman's glove and into short left field.
Houston scored two runs in the eighth inning off Yoshihisa Hirano to tie the game at 3. Josh Reddick walked with one out and scored on Brian McCann's two-out double. After Marwin Gonzalez walked, pinch hitter Derek Fisher doubled to right to tie the game.
Peralta walked and scored in the first inning and hit a bases-empty homer in the second inning. Brad Boxberger (1-2) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.
George Springer hit a bases-empty homer and finished 2-for-5 for the Astros, who have lost five of six after a three-game winning streak. Springer has five hits through the first two games of the three-game series.
Arizona right-hander Zack Greinke gave up five hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking a season-high two. He was in line for the victory but remains 6-2 with a 2.24 ERA in 10 career starts against the Astros.
Houston right-hander Charlie Morton gave up gave up three hits and three runs in five innings, with three strikeouts and four walks. All of his walks came in the first inning. He entered with a 1.72 ERA, which was third on the Astros and eighth in the majors.
Morton walked Peralta, Daniel Descalso and Goldschmidt to open the first inning, and Pollock hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. Morton walked Ketel Marte with two outs but got out of the inning with a groundout.
Peralta's sixth homer of the season with two outs in the second gave Arizona a 2-0 lead.
Springer's home run in the fifth inning, his seventh of the year, broke Greinke's shutout and made it 2-1.
Greinke doubled and scored on Peralta's single in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Peralta was thrown out attempting to take second on Springer's throw.
