BALTIMORE -- The Houston Astros showed the Baltimore Orioles why they are the top offensive team in the American League -- and possibly the majors -- on Friday night.

Yuli Gurriel, Brian McCann and Colin Moran all homered, and starter Mike Fiers tossed seven solid innings as the Astros took a big early lead and hung on for an 8-7 victory.

Gurriel (4-for-5) hit a two-run shot in the first inning and McCann added a solo homer in the sixth. Moran, who had tripled earlier for his fourth major league hit, then belted a solo shot in the eighth and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Moran came to Camden Yards many times growing up due to his family connections and loved that this was the park where he hit his first big-league homer.

"It's definitely pretty special to play here in the big leagues," Moran said. "I was just trying to get a good pitch and got one over the plate. It's definitely rewarding. I worked really hard to re-tool my swing in the offseason."

Gurriel ended up a triple short of the cycle with his career-best four hits.

The Astros, who lead the American League with a .290 team average, banged out 16 hits, including five extra-base hits.

The Astros (64-32) banged out five runs on five hits off Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez (4-6) in the first two innings. Jimenez allowed six runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings as the Astros rolled to an early 5-0 lead and eventually stretched it to 8-1.

"They're a good-hitting team," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "At one point they had six guys hitting over .300. You make those mistakes out over the plate, you'll pay a price."

Fiers (7-4) allowed one run on six hits in his seven innings of work. He struck out nine with just one walk and won his second straight start.

The right-hander said he needed to battle through the tough weather conditions. It was 90 degrees with lots of humidity at game time, and Fiers said that was tough.

"Everyone's got to pitch in it," he said. "I just had to figure out how to adjust to it. My hands were getting a little moist there, just kind of hard to grip the ball a little bit. I just had to find a way to get through."

Jonathan Schoop and Mark Trumbo each had RBI singles for the Orioles (46-50), who made it interesting with a five-run ninth inning after trailing 8-2.

Adam Jones added a two-run double in the ninth and, two batters later, Schoop (four RBIs) hit a three-run homer off Chris Devenski.

That made it 8-7, and Ken Giles came on one out later and struck out Trumbo for his 21st save.

Schoop finished 2-for-5 with his team-best 20th homer, and the All-Star appears to be coming into his own.

"He is having a fantastic year," Trumbo said. "We are all really happy for him. He works extremely hard and it's really starting to pay off. He looks like a star out there."

The ninth inning made Astros manager A.J. Hinch shake his head a bit but his team still escaped with the victory despite his having to use three pitchers.

"It was a mess of an inning from the beginning," Hinch said. "They obviously put some good at-bats together; it can happen fast in this park. All's well that end's well with a win, albeit a stressful one in the end."

Houston took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning against Jimenez.

Carlos Beltran singled in Jose Altuve, who walked and stole second. Beltran's RBI came with two outs and was followed by Gurriel's two-run homer that just got over the left-field wall.

Houston struck again in the second when rookie Moran lined his first big-league triple, driving in Alex Bregman, who led off with a single. Moran scored on an Altuve groundout for a 5-0 lead.

NOTES: Orioles manager Buck Showalter said INF/OF Ryan Flaherty (right shoulder strain, 60-day DL) could go out on rehab work starting late next week. The Orioles need to see how he progresses until that point. ... Astros LHP Dallas Keuchel (neck soreness) will make a rehab start in the next few days with Tri-City (short-season Class A), according to Houston skipper A.J. Hinch. He hopes Keuchel can rejoin the team later on this road trip. ... The Astros will be without the services of bench coach Alex Cora in this series as he just became the father of twins.
