Twins 8, White Sox 6: Oswaldo Arcia had two hits, including a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning, as visiting Minnesota staged a late rally to overtake Chicago.
After the White Sox turned a two-run deficit into a 6-4 lead in the seventh, Ronald Belisario (4-8) relieved starter Scott Carroll and gave up a one-out single by Trevor Plouffe before hitting Josh Willingham with a pitch. All-Star Kurt Suzuki followed with a grounder past second base to plate a run and end Belisario’s outing.
Chicago closer Jake Petricka came on to retire Kennys Vargas for the second out, but Arcia’s liner bounced off the glove of a backpedaling Alejandro De Aza near the fence in left to put Minnesota in front. Danny Santana added some insurance in the ninth with a solo blast, Ryan Pressly (1-0) retired the only batter he faced to end the seventh, Casey Fien tossed a scoreless eighth and All-Star Glen Perkins worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his 27th save.
Minnesota got to Carroll early as Plouffe – the third of four consecutive Twins to reach base to begin the game – doubled down the line to plate Santana before Brian Dozier scored on a double-play grounder. Santana opened the third with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch before Plouffe brought him home with a line-drive double into the gap in right-center to make it 3-0.
After Gordon Beckham’s RBI groundout put Chicago on the board in the bottom half, Minnesota restored its three-run advantage in the fourth on another double-play grounder. All-Star Alexei Ramirez's solo shot - his third homer in his last four contests against the Twins - opened the fourth and the rest of the lead quickly evaporated in the seventh as Adam Eaton’s two-run double sparked a four-run outburst.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago All-Star 1B Jose Abreu went 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his 21-game hitting streak. The run was the longest by a White Sox rookie since Chico Carrasquel's 24-game stretch in 1950. … Minnesota starter Yohan Pino, who faced the White Sox for the second time in seven days and third time in eight career starts, yielded four runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. … Carroll, who also opposed Pino last Sunday, permitted four runs and seven hits over seven frames.
