Braves 4, Marlins 2 (10): Evan Gattis lined a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th as host Atlanta kept Miami winless on the road this season.
Gattis blasted a 1-0 offering from Arquimedes Caminero (0-1) over the wall in left as the Braves survived Craig Kimbrel’s blown save in the ninth to win for the eighth time in 10 games. Gattis and Andrelton Simmons each homered and finished with two hits while Anthony Varvaro (1-0) allowed two hits but no runs in the 10th.
Christian Yelich extended his hitting streak to 15 games by going 2-for-5 and Garrett Jones finished with a solo homer among his two hits. The Marlins dropped to 0-7 in away games.
Dan Uggla led off the 10th with a sharp single up the middle, setting up Gattis’ fifth homer of the season and rescuing Atlanta after Kimbrel, pitching for the second time in nine days, could not finish Miami in the ninth. Derek Dietrich lined a pinch-hit double to left-center off the Braves' closer, scoring pinch-runner Reed Johnson to tie the game before Kimbrel struck out the next three hitters.
Atlanta starter Julio Teheran gave up one run on five hits in seven innings and Miami starter Tom Koehler tied a career high with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Jones opened the scoring with a solo homer to right in the second, but Simmons countered three innings later with a solo shot to left to even it.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Yelich stole second base in the eighth and is 14-for-14 in career stolen base attempts, breaking Edgar Renteria’s club record for most consecutive steals to begin a career. … Teheran, who led the majors with eight pickoffs last season, picked off Marcell Ozuna at first base in the third for his first pickoff of 2014. … Teheran retired 14 of the final 15 hitters he faced.
