Diamondbacks 2, Giants 0: Wade Miley outdueled Ryan Vogelsong as visiting Arizona blanked San Francisco to even the three-game series.
Aaron Hill hit a solo home run and scored on Gerardo Parra’s single for the Diamondbacks, who returned the favor after being shut out in Friday’s series opener. Miley (5-6) scattered four hits and walked three while striking out four over seven innings to pick up his second straight win.
Vogelsong (5-7) was reached for two runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings to suffer his fourth consecutive loss and has received a total of one run of support in those four outings. Brandon Belt singled and reached base three times for the Giants, who fell for the fourth time in the last six games.
Hill came up with one out in the fourth inning and snapped a scoreless draw by belting a 1-1 changeup into the front row in left. Hill led off the seventh with a ground-rule double and moved up on a groundout before coming in on Parra’s single to right.
San Francisco left two on in the fourth and stranded two runners in scoring position in the seventh. Brad Ziegler worked a perfect eighth and Addison Reed took care of the ninth for his 21st save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (back) made his first start of the season and went 0-for-3 with a walk. … The Diamondbacks will push rookie RHP Chase Anderson’s scheduled start back to after the All-Star break while LHP Vidal Nuno will move up to pitch the series finale on Sunday. … San Francisco CF Angel Pagan (back) will miss his bobblehead day on Sunday rehabbing but could return to the team shortly after the break.
