Mets 5, Phillies 0: Matt Harvey struck out 10 and outdueled fellow All-Star Cliff Lee while Juan Lagares belted a three-run home run as host New York took two of three from Philadelphia.
Harvey (8-2) hit Chase Utley with a pitch and allowed three hits but was otherwise flawless over seven innings. David Wright and Marlon Byrd added solo shots in the first inning for the Mets, who won their first series at home since sweeping a two-game set against the New York Yankees from May 29-30.
Lee (10-4) permitted five runs over six frames and was plagued by the long ball for the second straight start. He permitted three homers to the Mets after surrendering four over the span of eight batters in a July 10 loss to the Washington Nationals.
Wright staked New York to an early lead after lifting a 1-2 fastball off the railing in left-center. The home run was upheld following a quick review and Byrd followed with a mammoth solo blast into the second deck in left six pitches later.
The Mets added to their cushion in the fourth when Wright and Josh Satin each singled ahead of Lagares, whose second home run just cleared the fence in left-center. Harvey, who faced only two runners in scoring position, struck out the side in the third and fifth to improve to 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA in his career against the Phillies.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wright and Byrd’s home runs were the first of the back-to-back variety by New York this season. … Harvey lowered his career ERA to 2.38, setting the Mets’ team record for the lowest mark by a starter after 30 starts. … Lee has allowed at least two homers in a start three times this season – all to National League East rivals.
