Athletics 10, Brewers 2: Coco Crisp led a 19-hit attack with four hits – including a solo home run – as visiting Oakland pounded Milwaukee for its 15th win in 17 games.
Brandon Moss also went deep for the Athletics, who set a season high in hits. Tommy Milone (6-5) yielded five hits over seven frames – surviving a two-run shot by Rickie Weeks – and helped his own cause with two hits, including an RBI single, while scoring twice.
Marco Estrada (4-4) gave up five runs and nine hits over four-plus innings. He was forced to leave the game with a left hamstring strain after allowing the first three batters in the fifth to reach safely.
Crisp’s homer to lead off the game and Moss’ solo blast in the second staked Oakland to a 2-0 lead before it erupted for six runs in the fifth. Estrada left after surrendering Jed Lowrie’s run-scoring double, but Burke Badenhop fared no better, giving up four RBI singles – including ones by Milone and John Jaso.
Milone made his only big mistake on a changeup to Weeks in the fifth, but the Athletics got the runs back in the seventh. Milone crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice by Yoenis Cespedes and Crisp scored later on the play following a throwing error by Weeks.
GAME NOTEBOOK: All nine Oakland starters recorded at least one hit. 3B Josh Donaldson was the only Athletic not to score a run, while 2B Eric Sogard was the lone Oakland hitter not to record an RBI. … The Brewers had a home run overturned for the second straight game. Weeks’ deep fly in the seventh initially was ruled his second blast of the game by third base umpire Alan Porter. However, the umpires reversed the call after a short delay, leaving Weeks with a triple. … Top prospect 2B Scooter Gennett made his major-league debut as a pinch hitter for the Brewers in the ninth. He grounded out to reliever Jesse Chavez but left to a warm ovation from the Miller Park crowd.
