Brewers 6, Padres 3:
Yuniesky Betancourt and Jonathan Lucroy had two RBIs apiece in a five-run second inning as visiting Milwaukee downed San Diego for its ninth straight victory.

Yovani Gallardo (2-1) allowed three runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings to win his second straight start. Jim Henderson worked the ninth for his fifth save and the Brewers have their longest winning streak since recording 10 straight victories in 2003.

San Diego lost its fifth straight game – and seventh straight home contest – despite the return of outfielder Carlos Quentin from an eight-game suspension stemming from an altercation that left Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke with a broken collarbone. Quentin had a run-scoring single in his first at-bat and Yonder Alonso followed with a single to give the Padres a 2-1 opening-inning lead.

Betancourt’s two-run single gave the Brewers a 3-2 lead and he scored on an infield out by Jean Segura. Lucroy smoked a two-run double into the left-field corner to make it 6-2 and end the night of San Diego starter Clayton Richard (0-2) after 1 2/3 innings.

Will Venable added a run-scoring single in the second for the Padres. San Diego loaded the bases in the seventh on three straight walks by Gallardo before Tom Gorzelanny entered and struck out Alonso.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Segura had three of Milwaukee’s 11 hits. … Richard gave up six runs and six hits as his ERA ballooned to 7.94. … Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was ejected by home plate umpire Gary Darling in the fifth inning after insisting Padres 3B Chase Headley swung at a pitch. Replays appeared to display that Roenicke was correct.
