Angels 4, Athletics 1: Jered Weaver scattered four hits over 6 2/3 innings as host Los Angeles halted a three-game losing streak.
Albert Pujols, Erick Aybar and Mike Trout homered for the Angels, who climbed within 10 games of first-place Oakland in the American League West.
Weaver (4-5) allowed three singles and a double while walking four and striking out eight en route to his third win in four starts. Ernesto Frieri recorded the final three outs for his 23rd save.
Los Angeles took an early 1-0 lead as J.B. Shuck led off the first inning with a single and scored three batters later on Josh Hamilton's double. Pujols doubled the lead with a solo homer in the third while Aybar and Trout added solo shots in the fifth to make it 4-0.
A.J. Griffin (8-7) had his three-game winning streak snapped after yielding four runs and six hits over five innings. Eric Sogard recorded two hits and Chris Young hit an RBI double for the Athletics, who have lost three of five.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland LF Yoenis Cespedes was scratched from the lineup due to a sore left wrist. The Cuban won the Home Run Derby during the All-Star festivities Monday. ... The Athletics scored their lone run in the ninth as Brandon Moss hit a leadoff single against Kevin Jepsen and advanced to second on an error before racing home on Young's two-base hit. ... Hamilton and Pujols had two hits apiece for the Angels.
