Padres 2, Dodgers 0: Robbie Erlin worked 7 2/3 superb innings and fellow rookie Jedd Gyorko homered and drove in both runs as host San Diego posted its fifth win in six games.
Will Venable recorded two of the five hits by the Padres, who must win their nine remaining games to avoid a third straight losing season.
Skip Schumaker registered three of National League West champion Los Angeles' six hits. The Dodgers, who clinched the division title with a victory at Arizona on Thursday, have lost six of eight.
Erlin (3-3) limited Los Angeles to four hits and one walk while striking out seven in improving to 2-0 at home. Luke Gregerson retired the only batter he faced and Huston Street struck out two with runners on the corners to notch his 32nd save.
Gyorko opened the scoring in the first inning with a groundout that plated Chris Denorfia, who reached on a two-base error while leading off and stole third. The lead was doubled in the fifth when Gyorko deposited a 2-0 offering from former Padre Edinson Volquez (9-12) over the center-field wall for his 20th home run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Volquez, who was released by San Diego in August, yielded two runs - one earned - on five hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings. ... Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez had a pinch-hit single off Street in the ninth inning after sitting out Thursday's division-clinching win with a quadriceps injury. ... Los Angeles fell to 24-12 in its last 36 games against NL West rivals.
