Phillies 3, Reds 2: Erik Kratz and Freddy Galvis hit back-to-back homers in the ninth inning off Aroldis Chapman as Philadelphia took two of three at home from Cincinnati.
Delmon Young drew a walk to open the ninth off Chapman (3-2) and was replaced on the bases by pinch runner Cliff Lee, who was subsequently picked off. But rather than serving as a boon for the Reds, Kratz knotted it when he drove a 3-2 fastball from Chapman into the left-field stands.
Galvis took Lee off the hook for his baserunning blunder three pitches later when he jumped on another fastball from the Reds’ closer, sending the Phillies to only their fifth win at home in the last 12 games. Antonio Bastardo (2-1) worked around a leadoff single in the ninth for the victory.
Jay Bruce extended his hitting streak to a season-high 10 games in the second inning when he lifted Jonathan Pettibone’s low fastball to straightaway center for his fifth home run. Todd Frazier extended the margin to 2-0 in the sixth, driving home Joey Votto with a double off the wall in deep right.
Sean Marshall relieved an ineffective Jonathan Broxton in the eighth after starter Homer Bailey tossed seven scoreless frames and served up Chase Utley’s two-out RBI single.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kratz entered the game in the third inning after starting C Carlos Ruiz departed with a strained right hamstring while running the bases in the second. … In their six meetings this season, Cincinnati outscored the Phillies 31-12. … Bruce finished 1-for-4 and is batting .390 with four homers and 12 RBIs during his hitting streak.
