Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 1: Aaron Hill homered and drove in a pair of runs to back a solid start by Wade Miley as host Arizona gained a split of the four-game series.

Miley (7-8) allowed one run and scattered five hits over 7 2/3 innings to win his third straight home start. He took a shutout into the seventh and finished with four strikeouts while improving to 5-1 against National League Central opponents.

Hill, who sat out the previous two games in an effort to shake free from an extended slump, gave the Diamondbacks the lead for good with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. After Cliff Pennington made it 2-0 with a run-scoring double in the fourth, Hill hit the first pitch of the fifth over the wall in left for his fifth home run.

Carlos Villanueva (2-7) allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. Welington Castillo was 2-for-3 with a walk and knocked in the Cubs' only run with a double in the seventh.

J.J. Putz took over for Miley with two outs in the eighth and struck out Dioner Navarro to strand a runner at second. Brad Ziegler worked around a leadoff double in the ninth to record his fifth save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago LF Alfonso Soriano was pulled from the starting lineup hours before first pitch, reportedly in preparation for a trade to the New York Yankees. The 37-year-old, who played his first five seasons with the Yankees, is hitting .254 with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs. ... Diamondbacks C Wil Nieves went 2-for-4 to lift his average to .369 through 34 games. ... The Cubs stay on the road and open a three-game set at San Francisco on Friday. Arizona remains home to host San Diego.
