Diamondbacks 4, Reds 3: Jason Kubel delivered a game-ending two-run single in the ninth as host Arizona rallied after squandering a lead in the top of the inning to run its winning streak to four games.
Jay Bruce blasted two home runs, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the ninth for Cincinnati, but closer Aroldis Chapman (3-3) couldn't hold the lead. He allowed a leadoff single by Paul Goldschmidt and walked Miguel Montero and Cody Ross to load the bases for Kubel, who smacked a single to right field to make a winner of Brad Ziegler (4-1).
Arizona starter Patrick Corbin outdueled Mike Leake for eight innings and was in line for his 10th win before the Reds rallied against closer Heath Bell. Brandon Phillips drew a leadoff walk in the ninth and Bruce crushed a 3-2 fastball from Bell to right-center for his eighth homer in his last nine games.
Leake allowed two runs on four hits over eight innings. He didn't permit a baserunner until Corbin's two-out double in the sixth, which Gerardo Parra followed with a two-run homer for a 2-1 Arizona lead.
Corbin limited the Reds' potent offense to one run on three hits over eight innings, but Bruce's second blast led to his fourth straight failed effort to become the first Diamondbacks pitcher to win his first 10 decisions to start a season. He allowed a solo shot by Bruce to lead off the second but settled in to retire the next eight batters and didn't give up another hit until Devin Mesoraco's two-out single in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bruce's home run was only the second Corbin has allowed to a left-handed batter in his career. … Bruce has homered in four consecutive games, matching his career high and and moving within one of the franchise record. His last seven hits have been home runs. … Parra has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games and has homered in consecutive games for the first time in his career.
