Michael Brantley and Casey Kotchman each knocked in three runs and Cleveland held off visiting Chicago in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

Brantley and Kotchman belted back-to-back, two-run doubles as the Central Division-leading Indians scored five times in the third inning to take an 8-2 lead. Cleveland went on to win for the fifth time in six games.

Indians starter Zach McAllister (1-0) gave up six hits and four runs – two earned – over six innings to earn his first major league victory in his 2012 debut.

Alexei Ramirez had three RBIs, including a two-run single in the ninth with no outs to bring the Sox within 8-6. Nick Hagadone got the final three outs for his first major league save.

Travis Hafner homered off White Sox starter Philip Humber to ignite a three-run rally in the second inning and give the Indians a 3-1 lead.

Humber (1-2) allowed nine hits and eight runs over 2 1/3 innings. The right-hander has given up 21 hits, including five homers, and 20 runs in three starts since his perfect game.

Jose Quintana allowed just one hit over the last 5 2/3 innings for the White Sox in his major league debut.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
