Athletics 7, Mariners 4 (10): Brandon Moss drove in five runs, including three on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning as Oakland rallied to stun visiting Seattle and move closer to clinching a playoff berth.
Josh Donaldson belted a two-run homer off closer Tom Wilhelmsen in the ninth to tie it at 4-4, and Moss launched the game-winner off Stephen Pryor an inning later. The Athletics moved within 2 1/2 games of Texas in the American League West and 2 1/2 ahead of the Los Angeles Angels for the second wild card. The latter clubs were rained out on Saturday.
Kyle Seager and Michael Saunders each hit their 19th home run in the three-run fourth inning and Jason Vargas struck out seven over seven strong innings for Seattle. Vargas allowed one run on five hits to add to his career-high win total.
Moss drove in Oakland's first two runs with a single in the fourth and a double in the eighth. Leadoff man Coco Crisp went 4-for-5 and scored twice for the Athletics. Grant Balfour (3-2) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win, while Oliver Perez (1-3) allowed a leadoff single to Crisp in the 10th and was charged with the loss.
Oakland starter Daniel Staily (2-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked four and gave up both Seattle homers. Straily has allowed seven homers in his last four starts.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Seattle has hit at least one home run in 18 consecutive games, one shy of the club record set in 1999. … Vargas will finish the season with 217 1/3 innings pitched, and he and Felix Hernandez will give the Mariners their first duo with more than 215 innings pitching in the same season since Jamie Moyer and Freddy Garcia in 2002. … Oakland SS Stephen Drew went 0-for-4 to snap his eight-game hitting streak.
