Angels 8, Mariners 4:
Mike Trout went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Howie Kendrick went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, but visiting Los Angeles was eliminated from postseason consideration despite defeating Seattle.

The Angels had 16 hits and won for the eighth time in 10 games, but learned of their elimination in the bottom of the eighth when the Oakland Athletics clinched a wild card berth by downing the Texas Rangers 4-3.

Trout had a run-scoring single in the fourth and a two-run triple in the sixth as the Angels torched Mariners ace Felix Hernandez (13-9) for seven runs and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings. C.J. Wilson (13-10) allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits in 6 1/3 innings to win for the first time since Sept. 8.

Albert Pujols had a run-scoring double in the first and Mark Trumbo and Kendrick added RBI singles as Los Angeles jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Trout’s sixth-inning triple made it 6-1 and he scored on Torii Hunter’s single.

The Mariners scored three seventh-inning runs, pulling within 7-4 on Trayvon Robinson’s single.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pujols’ double was his 50th of the season and makes him the first player in major-league history with 30 homers and 50 doubles in three seasons. … Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (groin) was held out of the game and is considered day-to-day. … Trout has scored 130 runs, third-most ever among AL rookies. Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio holds the record (132 in 1936) and Red Sox Hall of Famer Ted Williams (131 in 1939) ranks second.
