Athletics 6, Angels 0: Bartolo Colon pitched eight shutout innings, and homers from Yoenis Cespedes and Jonny Gomes powered visiting Oakland past Los Angeles.

Colon (2-1) was outstanding, giving up just four hits and no walks, striking out five. He threw 108 pitches, 82 for strikes.

Cespedes, who hadn’t homered since hitting three in his first four games of the season, launched a three-run shot off Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana (0-3) in the first. Gomes added his third homer of the season, a solo shot to left, in the sixth.

Consecutive one-out singles by Cliff Pennington and Josh Reddick set the stage for Cespedes in the first. He delivered, hitting a 1-2 pitch from Santana out to give the A’s a 3-0 advantage.

Colon took it from there, the 38-year-old right-hander throwing 38 consecutive strikes in one stretch between the fifth and eighth innings. Pinch-hitter Erick Aybar’s ground-rule double with one out in the eighth was the first extra-base off Colon.

The Angels dropped to 4-8 on the season, and fell six games behind Texas in the AL West.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles finalized a four-year contract extension with Aybar before the game. The deal reportedly is worth around $35 million. … Santana’s ERA rose to 6.75. … Reddick, Pennington and Jemile Weeks each finished with two hits for Oakland.
