Dodgers 5, Astros 1: Chris Capuano pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, Jerry Hairston went 5-for-5 and Tony Gwynn delivered a pair of RBI singles to lift Los Angeles to its 12th win in 16 games. The Dodgers own the best record in the majors at 32-15.
Los Angeles took the last two games of the series and has not lost a series since dropping two of three to the Cubs from May 4-6 at Wrigley Field.
Capuano (7-1) posted his eighth consecutive quality start to improve to 5-0 at home. The left-hander struck out eight and walked two.
The Astros scored their only run in the first, when Jose Altuve led off with a triple and scored on Jed Lowrie's RBI groundout. Houston managed only one more hit — Lowrie's single in the sixth.
Gwynn tied it 1-1 with an RBI single in the second and added another in the two-run eighth. Hairston capped his first career five-hit game with an RBI single in the eighth.
Backup catcher Matt Treanor hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.
Astros starter J.A. Happ (4-4) took the loss despite matching a career high with 10 strikeouts and posting his third consecutive quality start. He allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Capuano has allowed two or fewer runs in eight of his 10 starts and has not allowed more than six hits in any of them. He improved to 7-4 against Houston. … Gwynn is 12-for-23 (.522) with runners in scoring position, including 2-for-2 Sunday. … Dodgers 2B Elian Herrera went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Teammate Andre Ethier went 0-for-5 to snap his streak at six games.
