Cardinals 7, Cubs 6:
Yadier Molina hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning as host St. Louis snapped a four-game skid and salvaged a split of a two-game series with rival Chicago.

Matt Carpenter hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the eighth and Allen Craig went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cardinals. Craig is batting .404 with 18 RBIs in 12 games since coming off the disabled list.

Carpenter, who was a late addition to the starting lineup in place of a resting Lance Berkman, came up with one out in the eighth inning against left-hander James Russell and drove the first pitch out to right-center for a 6-5 lead.

Jason Motte (2-1) was on to close it in the ninth but allowed a leadoff home run to Alfonso Soriano to knot it again 6-6.

Chicago closer Rafael Dolis (2-3) was not much better, allowing a single to Matt Holliday leading off the ninth. Holliday moved up on a groundout and came in on Molina’s single.

The Cubs took a 3-0 lead in the first inning off Lohse only to have St. Louis chip away, grabbing two runs back in the bottom of the first and tying it on Rafael Furcal’s groundout in the second.

Holliday’s solo homer in the fifth gave the Cardinals a 4-3 edge. Bryan LaHair tied it with a solo homer in the sixth.

Chicago took the lead on Reed Johnson’s RBI single in the seventh but the Cardinals struck back when Craig’s third hit of the day plated Furcal to make it 5-5.
