Mariners 5, Twins 1: Michael Saunders hit a two-run homer and Blake Beavan won for the fifth time in six decisions as host Seattle completed a three-game sweep to stretch its winning streak to five.

Saunders’ seventh-inning homer off Jeff Gray was his first since July 24th and Eric Thames added a run-scoring double later in the inning as the Mariners won for the 12th time in their last 13 home games.

Beavan (8-7) allowed one run and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Carter Capps worked out of a bases-loaded jam by retiring the final two hitters in the sixth to protect the lead as Seattle handed Minnesota its fifth straight loss.

Josh Kinney pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings for his first major-league save.

Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the second when Josh Willingham doubled, moved to third on a grounder and scored on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Plouffe.

Seattle loaded the bases in the third on two walks and a single before John Jaso coaxed a run-scoring walk off Twins starter Samuel Deduno (4-1). Jesus Montero followed by grounding into a double play as Saunders scored to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead.

Saunders’ homer boosted Seattle’s lead to 4-1.

Deduno allowed two runs and five hits in six innings. He walked six and struck out two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Thames had three hits and went 5-for-8 in the series. … Minnesota OF Ben Revere (ankle) was 0-for-4 with a walk in his first action since being injured on Wednesday. … Seattle evened its home mark at 30-30 with the victory. … Twins OF Denard Span (shoulder) missed his sixth consecutive game.
