Brewers 6, Nationals 0: Rookie Mike Fiers struck out nine over 6 1/3 solid innings and Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez belted two-run homers as host Milwaukee snapped a season-high seven-game skid.
Prior to the contest, the Brewers traded former Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels for shortstop Jean Segura and minor-league pitchers Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena.
Although Milwaukee traded an outstanding pitcher, it received a sizzling outing from Fiers (4-4). The rookie snapped a modest two-game losing streak by scattering four hits and dropping his ERA to an impressive 1.77. Fiers has been stingy over the last five weeks, permitting just three earned runs in his last 41 innings.
Hart opened the scoring in the fourth inning by depositing an 0-1 belt-high fastball from Ross Detwiler (5-4) just inside the left-field foul pole. The two-out blast was Hart's 18th of the season - and first since July 16.
After Carlos Gomez and Ryan Braun added RBI singles in the fifth, Ramirez belted his 12th homer of the season for his third hit of the night.
Detwiler permitted four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings for the Nationals, who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
GAME NOTEBOOK: With Greinke departing, Mark Rogers has been tentatively selected to start Sunday's series finale. ... The Brewers' beleaguered bullpen did not allow a hit and struck out two in 2 2/3 innings. ... Milwaukee designated INF Edwin Maysonet and OF Brock Kjeldgaard for assignment.
