Athletics 5, Blue Jays 4 (15): Jemile Weeks led off the 15th inning with a triple and scored on Coco Crisp's sacrifice fly as host Oakland outlasted Toronto.

It was the second 15-inning game in five days for the Athletics, who notched their 13th walk-off win of the season to open a 1 1/2-game edge over the Los Angeles Angels atop the American League wild-card standings.

Travis Blackley (4-3), moved to the bullpen so highly touted prospect Dan Straily could make his major-league debut Friday, allowed one run in three scoreless innings for the victory.

Aaron Loup (0-2), making his ninth career appearance, took the loss for Toronto, which has dropped six in a row.

The Athletics were one strike from victory when Blue Jays catcher Jeff Mathis hammered a two-out, 3-2 fastball from closer Ryan Cook over the 388-foot sign in left-center to tie it at 4-4 and force extra innings.

Cook's sixth blown save cost Straily the victory. Straily, who led all the minors in strikeouts this year, allowed one run on five hits in six innings while fanning five and walking one.

Blue Jays left-hander Brett Cecil lasted five innings, giving up four runs on nine hits.

Both teams had their chances in extra innings. The Athletics failed to score after loading the bases with one out in the 10th, and Toronto's Omar Vizquel was gunned down at the plate on Colby Rasmus' double in the 12th.

Toronto lost more than the game, as third baseman Brett Lawrie left the game after batting in the top of the first with rib-cage tightness. Rasmus departed following his 12th-inning hit with a groin injury.

Both players are considered day-to-day.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto made several roster moves after the game, optioning Cecil to Triple-A Las Vegas and designating RHP Matt Carpenter for assignment. The club recalled RHP Jesse Chavez and infield prospect Adeiny Hechevarria to fill out the roster. ... Athletics LF Yoenis Cespedes left the game in the eighth with a sprained right wrist. ... Oakland dealt starting C Kurt Suzuki to the Washington Nationals for prospect David Freitas. Derek Norris, who was demoted early in the week, will take over as the starter. Suzuki was tops among American League catchers in fielding percentage (.996) and runners caught stealing (23). ... The Athletics acquired RHP Pat Neshek from Baltimore for cash considerations. Neshek, who last pitched in the majors on Aug. 17, 2011, has made 157 major league appearances with Minnesota and San Diego. Oakland also placed DH Seth Smith on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring and recalled OF Michael Taylor from Triple-A Sacramento.
