Pinch-hitter Justin Turner hit a two-run single to break a tie in the eighth inning as the host New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 on Saturday and ended Andre Ethier's hitting streak at 30 games.

Ethier drew a walk in the first inning and was retired in his final four at-bats.

After the Mets took a 2-0 lead in the second, the Dodgers came back to tie it with a solo home run by Dioner Navarro in the fourth and an RBI single by Aaron Miles in the sixth.

With two outs in the eighth, Turner ripped a bases-loaded single to deep center field against Hong-Chih Kuo, which scored Jason Bay and Ronny Paulino. The Dodgers' Matt Kemp nearly caught it, but it bounced off his glove.

Francisco Rodriguez worked a scoreless ninth to save it for Tim Byrdak (1-0).

Dillon Gee worked 5 1/3 innings for New York in place of Chris Young, who was scratched during pregame warmups. Gee gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks.

Dodgers starter Jon Garland gave up seven hits and three walks over six innings. Mike MacDougal (0-1) took the loss after he walked Bay to open the eighth.
